Week # 6         Weekly Obedient Question:              Read and discuss John 4:31–34 in light of the question, "How important was it for Jesus to obey His Father?"

Answer:

In explaining this passage I would say its leading subject is service. The Lord was giving needed instruction to His disciples, and preparing them for their future work. He sets before them a concise yet remarkably complete outline of the fundamental principles which underlie all acceptable service for God. The all-important and basic principle is that of absolute obedience to the will of God. The servant must do the will of his master. This the perfect Servant Himself exemplified. Note how He refers to God. He does not say here, "My meat is to do the will of the Father," but "the will of Him that sent me." That shows it is service which is in view to a Mighty God and Creator, amen.  Jesus obedience was out of His respect for the Creator, the omnipotent God, which was His Father.

Week # 6         Weekly Application Question:         How does the creation account motivate me to obey my Lord?

Answer:

That is a good question to ask ourselves, and a good question to study so we can see the importance of Who God really is, especially concerning His creation. It took me time to really look inside of me and answer this question personally. How does the creation account motivate me, not someone else, but me to obey my Lord? I say it again, good question!  I stand in awe, reverence, and an inspiring sense of God creation; this fear moves me in such a way I know that God smiles when that comes over me. Looking at God's creation and knowing that He created all of this causes me to want to obey Him in every way I can, I mean in every way. When I know I have not obeyed God, I sense a deep sadness in my soul, spirit, therefore knowing that He created me motivate me to praise Him and to pray that I would obey Him.

  Lord, we give you this mountain of fear that sometimes we feel inside. Sometimes life overwhelms us and we feel overcome by anxiety and doubt. Your Word tells us to take courage! It is Your Word that gives us the courage we need daily. Thy Word says, do not be afraid. Lord, the storms of life come to rock our boat, and because of Your Word we journey on. Open our hearts to receive Your grace through Your Word right now in Jesus' Name.  Father God, fill us with boldness to step off this shaking ship and greet You on the waters of life. Lord, our feet are sinking and our hearts is fearful when we get off track. Lord God, please give us the courage we all need today! Lord God Almighty, we take Your hand and we give You the things that we most afraid of. Teach us and show us how we can trust You even more. Bless us to have faith in Your Word to walk a victorious life before You, Lord. We desire to do Your will for our life. Subject:           The Courage to Obey:

God loves us unconditionally and has amazing plans for our lives if we follow Him wholeheartedly. The Lord is engineering our circumstances and working them all out for our good.

STUDY POINTS:

Courage is needed to fulfill God's assignments for our lives.

 Why would Joshua need bravery to achieve the job God designed for him? He needed it because:

 

He was stepping into Moses' shoes:

After performing many miraculous signs in Pharaoh's presence, Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness for forty long years. There had never been a prophet like Moses "whom the Lord knew face to face" (Deut. 34:10). Anyone who's ever had to follow a great leader knows how intimidating that can be. But Moses was now dead, and Joshua was called to take the reins of leadership.

Conquering the Promised Land was a seemingly impossible task:

Its walled cities were like fortresses, and the soldiers were skilled in warfare and equipped with weapons and chariots. Furthermore, there were giants in the land. Because of all these challenges, the Lord told Joshua three times to be strong and courageous (Josh. 1:6-7, 9). Although all of us face different situations than the one Joshua encountered, we each have areas of obedience that require courage. Perhaps it's confronting a friend who is living in sin, or responding to a boss who wants us to compromise our moral values. Or maybe God is calling us to stand up for our beliefs in a classroom or refuse to give in to peer pressure. Whatever the issue, we also need courage to do what's right.

Courage is strengthened by God's promises to us:

The Bible is filled with assurances that give us the boldness to move ahead in obedience. Although many of these assurances were written to people who lived long ago, the scriptural principles within them still apply to us today. To encourage and assure Joshua, the Lord gave him the following promises:

The land:

"Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses" (Josh. 1:3). When God makes a promise, He sees it as already completed.

His powerful presence:

"No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life,  just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you" (Josh. 1:5).

Success:

The Lord promised Joshua success in his mission if he would "be careful to do according to all the law" and "meditate on it day and night" (Josh. 1:7, 8). That was the only way Joshua would be able to guide the people wisely and protect them from the pagan influences that would surround them. Like Joshua, we need to read the Scriptures to receive God's instructions in order to succeed.

What does it mean when we meditate on God's Word?

Meditation is a process by which we apply Scripture to our lives. It begins with reading God's Word and asking Him questions such as: What are You saying to me in this passage? Is there something You want me to do? Is there an area of my life You want to change? Meditation on the Scriptures reveals any hidden areas we've reserved for ourselves, prompting us to fully surrender to the Lord.

 

Since God speaks to us personally through His Word, that's one way we'll find out what He wants us to do and how we are to live. When we go to His Word, the Holy Spirit interprets it for us in a way that speaks to our individual needs and circumstances.

 

The key to courage is meditation upon God's Word:

When we reflect on Scripture as part of our daily lives, we can expect the following results:

 

 It quietens the spirit. Instead of fretting and becoming discouraged, we can rely on the best counselor in the world—Almighty God. His words bring comfort and peace to our souls.

 

It purifies the heart. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet, revealing things that shouldn't be in our lives. It shows us the right way to go (Ps. 119:105).

 

 It sharpens perception. Meditation opens our minds to understand truths we'd never comprehend otherwise. When we search the Scriptures, the Lord increases our knowledge and leads us to His promises. In time, we can build a promise bank of verses that strengthen our faith and fill us with the courage to obey.

 

It clarifies direction. Whenever the path is unclear, and we need specific direction for decisions, the Lord uses our time of meditation to speak to our hearts, guiding us to the choices He would have us make.

 

It confirms or cautions counsel. The wisdom found in God's Word helps us evaluate the advice of others to determine if it's godly and wise or if it should be rejected.

 

It increases faith. When the Lord blesses us for our obedience and does what He's promised, our confidence in Him and His Word increases.

 

It enlarges our view of God. Meditation opens our eyes to who the Lord is. He's not just a God who resides in heaven, but also one who lives within us through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

 

 It keeps us aware of His presence and power. When we listen to the Lord in His Word, we'll discern that He is continually with us and is constantly displaying His power through us as He works in our lives.

God guides us to success:

God doesn't want us to fail. His goal is to teach us valuable lessons that will ensure that we eventually succeed. He'll take each experience and work it out for our good if we'll obey Him (Rom. 8:28).

Answer:

Our disobedient can separate us from God, it can affect our walk with Him, it can bring all the curses promised through disobedience, just as the blessings promised through obedient. Adam had a relationship with God and communicated with God daily, but when sin entered in that relationship was broken. Disobedient bring sin, and sin separate us from God.

Subject:           The Danger of Disobedient:

Disobedience Leads to Sin and Death

The disobedience of Adam brought sin and death into the world. But Christ's perfect obedience restores our fellowship with God, for everyone who believes in him.

Romans 5:19:
For as by the one man's [Adam's] disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's [Christ's] obedience the many will be made righteous. (ESV)

1 Corinthians 15:22:
"For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive." (ESV) Through Obedience We Experience the Blessings of Holy Living only Jesus Christ is perfect, therefore, only he could walk in sinless obedience. But as we allow the Holy Spirit to transform us from within, we grow in holiness.

Psalm 119:1–8:
"Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths. You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully. Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should! I will obey your decrees. Please don't give up on me! 

Isaiah 48:17–19:
This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow. Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea. Your descendants would have been like the sands along the seashore—too many to count! There would have been no need for your destruction, or for cutting off your family name." 

II Corinthians 7:1:
Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. 

The verse above says, "Let us work toward complete holiness." So, we don't learn obedience overnight; it's a lifelong process that we pursue by making it a daily goal.

 Obeying God is essential to pleasing Him:

Disobedience sends a message to the Lord, declaring that we know better than He does when it comes to our lives and the circumstances surrounding them.

God loves us and is committed to us. He commands our obedience, not because He is a strict taskmaster, but because He knows the devastating effects disobedience and sin will have on our lives. Satan, however, has another goal in mind. He seeks to tempt believers to disobey God, usually by telling them the Lord's promises cannot be trusted and that we can enjoy life more if we ignore His commands. Remember, disobedience always has fierce repercussions—feelings of guilt, shame, and worthlessness, broken lives, destroyed marriages, and bitter disputes, among them. While sin can never change God's eternal love for His children, it certainly disrupts our fellowship with the Savior and alienates us from His blessings. In times of disobedience, we become spiritually weak and unable to discern right from wrong. We sink deeper into sin's grasp and find it impossible to reverse our sinfulness on our own.

As we apply the following principles to our lives, we will begin to obey God with confidence and joy, knowing that He can be fully trusted to keep all of His promises:

Trust God with your life and all that concerns you:

There is no way to go wrong if you place your hope and trust in God. He created you and He loves you with an eternal love. Therefore, He will always lead you in the very best way possible.

Wait on the Lord for an answer to your problem or situation:

When in doubt, refuse to move ahead unless you know God is leading you.

Meditate on God's Word:

When you saturate your mind with the Word of God, you gain His viewpoint. When a temptation comes, you will know right from wrong and can act accordingly.

Listen to the Holy Spirit:

God continues to speak to His people today. He speaks to us through His Word, the Holy Spirit, and through the words of a pastor or trusted Christian friend. We become sensitive to the Spirit of God by spending time with Him—praying and studying the principles in Scripture.

Be willing to wait or walk away when the way before you is unclear:

If you desire to please God above all others, obedience to Him will require you to remain firm. If you do not sense clear guidance in your situation, ask God to confirm His will to you in His Word. He will never contradict Scripture. His will for your life always lines up perfectly with what the Bible says.

Be willing to endure conflict:

When the nation of Israel entered the Promised Land at God's direction, she had to face strong enemy opposition. God rarely empties our lives of trouble and conflict. If He did, we would not have any reason to depend upon Him. He allows enough difficulty to keep us turned toward Him.

Leave the consequences to God:

Obedience may not be easy—you may receive criticism from others or face fierce obstacles and opposition—but it will always put you in a favorable position before God. He will take care of all that concerns you. Stay on the path of obedience and leave the rest to Him.

Father God, God of mercy and truth, we stand before You with a heart of humbleness, and a desire to obey You with all our hearts. Disobedient has played a part in our lives and we ask for forgiveness right now. Please, Holy Spirit, teach us to obey the Almighty God.  As we study this lesson show us ways we are not obeying You in Jesus' name.  Dear heavenly Father, we want to live godly in Christ Jesus and we ask that You would help us to develop an attitude of obedience to Your will and an increasing trust in Your Word. Help us to grow in grace, and to develop the right godly practice and scripture purpose in life, so that You are lifted up in our hearts and glorified in all we do. May we learn to praise You without ceasing and to develop an attitude of prayerfulness – and help us to be obedient to carry out all that we are called to do as a child of God – so that You increase as we decrease, AMEN.

Week # 4        Obedient Question:               How does Christ's complete obedience evidence His own deity and humanity?

Answer:

In the book of Matthew we see that Jesus lived exactly as the Scriptures predicted in order that the Scriptures would be fulfilled through His obedient to the Father, even though Christ Himself, being the second person of the trinity show us that humanity can live an obedient to God, and to live out in minute detail what God had said speaks volumes about the authority that Scripture is to have in our lives, so we too can live an obedient life to God.

Answer:

Jonah's disobedience did not only cause his very life to be threatened, but those he was with were endangered, as well.  When we sin or disobey God, it affects those around us.

Father God, we are so honored to be children, we are so blessed to know You and to be able to obey Your Word, but sometimes we don't know how, and when we don't know how to obey You and Your Word, please Father teach us through Your Holy Spirit, and we will follow Your led. Holy Spirit have Your way in our life today, teach us to do God's will for His glory. Christ obeyed You and we desire to obey You too.  Please, Holy Spirit teach us to know what is required to obey the Father's will in our lives today. We honor You, we praise You, we give You glory for the work Your Holy Spirit does in our life. Thank You Jesus, for dying for our sins and showing us the importance of obeying the Father. AMEN.
