Proverbs 1-31

1.  What is the "beginning of knowledge"?

Fear is the beginning of knowledge.


2.  Where is wisdom's voice heard?

Wisdom's voice is heard by applying your heart to understanding.

 

3.  What does the follower of wisdom gain?  Happiness

What does he escape? Shame


4.  What is Solomon's counsel to the young?

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. (Proverbs 4:5)

 

5.  How is the character of wisdom illustrated?

A loving doe, a graceful deer—Proverbs 5:19


6.  What are some of the counsels of experience?

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (Proverbs 6:23)


7.  What guide-posts on the way of life ought we to follow?

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. (Proverbs 7:2)


8.  What is the counsel of wisdom regarding impurity?

"Living an impure life clouds your ability to clearly see how life should be lived."Proverbs 5:3-9 Proverbs 5:21-23


9.  Why should we avoid surety-ship and sloth?

It is a warning  against folly; don't promise something you may not be able deliver.


10. How is wisdom personified?

In Proverbs 1:20–33 and Proverbs 8:1—9:12, wisdom is personified as a woman who has much to offer—including "enduring wealth and prosperity" and "life"—to anyone who would heed her words (Proverbs 8:18, 35).

11. What was Wisdom's part in the creation of the world?

The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. (Proverbs 3:19)


12. Whom does Wisdom invite to her feast?

For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, (Proverbs 9:14-16)


13.   How are the righteous and the wicked contrasted?

14. What is the characteristic of the speech of a good man?

The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom: The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable.


15. What possibilities of good and evil does speech afford?

Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. (Proverbs 17:7)


16. What is the quickest way to overcome and eradicate wrong?

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. (Proverbs 22:15)


17. What is the greatest of all foes to human happiness?

I would think separation from God


18. Name some of the characteristics of a God-honoring life.

Your relationships, your attitudes, your speech, your priorities, and your whole heart


19. What are the true riches?

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. (Proverbs 13:7) We have true riches when we have knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.


20. How should disputes be handled?

We should handle it with love and wisdom according to Proverbs' teaching.


21. How should we treat our enemies?

By doing good and loving and praying for our enemies, we can overcome evil with good.


22. What are some of the duties and joys of friendship?

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24;  It's a joy to know that you have a friend, and we must return that friendship.


23. What was Agur's prayer?

Proverbs 30:7-9. "Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."
  Agur asks two things of God, one covers his spiritual life and the other his physical life.


24. What lessons does Agur find in common things?

Proverbs 30:33   "Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife."


25. What counsel did King Lemuel's mother give him?

Proverbs 31:3  "Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroy kings."


26. How is the ideal woman described?

Proverbs 31:10, 12-28   ". . . for her price is far above rubies, and according to verses (12-28)

 

27. According to verse (Proverbs 27:5) what is true love? "Open rebuke is better than secret love"

 

28. A man will not prosper if he does what?

Proverbs 28:13 "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper, but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."

Proverbs 29: 18   "Where there is no vision, the people perish:"

 

30. Name some animals Agur speak of in chapter 30.

He speaks of a raven, eagle, serpent, ant, conies, locusts, spider, lion, greyhound, and a he goat.

 

31. A woman of virtue is far above what?
