BIBLE STUDY PSALM 23 WEEK # 6 (ANSWERS)

Questions:

1).        What did Apostle Paul mean when he said, "To die is to gain?"(Philippians 1:21)

The best is yet to come!! Paul knew that the life to come was precious. Paul knew to enter that life meant that he had triumphant. And, most of all, his troubles would be over. I believe!

2).        What is the certainty Jesus speak of concerning this verse? (John 14:1-3)

The certainty was that we have a place in the House of God, and that Jesus would return for His people, and where He is, there will we be also. It is certain that Heaven is a real place. It is not just a state of mind or condition, and we will be with Him.

3).        Where is the Christian's final abode?

Our final abode is a place to which we go and there is no sin, sorrow, suffering death or disease or doubts (Revelation 21:4). The presence of all that is good and the absence of all that is evil is the final abode of the Christian.

4).        Where is Heaven?

Heaven is a place of many mansions or dwelling places. It is a place of God's presence and of pure bliss, and a place of meaningful service unto the Lord with gladness. (Revelation 7:15).

5).        Will we know our loved ones in Heaven?

I believe we will!  Let's look at it! Many people say that the first thing they want to do when they arrive in heaven is see all their friends and loved ones who have passed on before them. In eternity, there will be plenty of time to see, know, and spend time with our friends and family members. However, that will not be our primary focus in heaven. We will be far more occupied with worshipping God and enjoying the wonders of heaven. Our reunions with loved ones are more likely to be filled with recounting the grace and glory of God in our lives, His wondrous love, and His mighty works. We will rejoice all the more because we can praise and worship the Lord in the company of other believers, especially those we loved on earth. What does the Bible say about whether we will be able to recognize people in the afterlife? King Saul recognized Samuel when the witch of Endor summoned Samuel from the realm of the dead (1 Samuel 28:8-17). When David's infant son died, David declared, "I will go to him, but he will not return to me" (2 Samuel 12:23). David assumed that he would be able to recognize his son in heaven, despite the fact that he died as a baby. In Luke 16:19-31, Abraham, Lazarus, and the rich man were all recognizable after death. At the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah were recognizable (Matthew 17:3-4). In these examples, the Bible does seem to indicate that we will be recognizable after death. The Bible declares that when we arrive in heaven, we will "be like him [Jesus]; for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2). Just as our earthly bodies were of the first man Adam, so will our resurrection bodies be just like Christ's (1 Corinthians 15:47). "And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.  That was long, but I did some research to give more detail than just a few scriptures.

6).        In this scripture, what do the word dwelling means? (Psalm 23:6)

The word "dwell" means to settle down and be at home. The "House of the Lord" is a state of constant joy; no more sorrow, no more separation. It will be for eternity   - a long time. We'll be "dwelling in the house of the Lord." What a happy time!

7).        How can you testify that the Lord is your Shepherd?

WOW! I have had so many experiences with the Lord, I just know in my knowner (my innerman) that the Lord Jesus Christ IS my Shepherd. I pray and ask Him to do things and if it's in His will, He does it; most of all the Word of God said that if I confess my sin, believe in my heart that Jesus was raised from the dead then I could trust Him to answer my prayers, and He has many times. When I don't know what to do, I pray and He led me, I pray and He shows me what to do, I pray and He comfort my heart, I pray and He send the right person into my life to do what need to be done; obviously, that is when I trust, obey, and act upon His Word.  I've always heard that the best teacher is experience, and I have been taught through my experiences since I've become a believing Christian. The Lord IS my Shepherd!

8).        Explain what the Bible means about this is not our home, we are just pilgrimage.

Listen to the words Albert Brumley, penned in 1937:

"This world is not my home, I'm just passing through,
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.
"

Beloved, we are "sojourners and pilgrims" on this earth (1 Pet.2: 11). A sojourner is "one who lives as a foreigner in a strange land." A pilgrim is one "who remains in a place but for a short while, as a traveler on a journey," and thus we sing: "Here we are but straying pilgrims." Paul said: "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ" (Phil.3: 20). Thus, a Christian is not a permanent resident on this earth, but a citizen of heaven and his conduct must match his citizenship! William Barclay sums it up nicely: "Jesus never said that this world was unimportant; but He said and implied over and over again that its importance is not in itself, but in that to which it leads. This world is not the end of life, it is a stage on the way; and therefore a man should never lose his heart to this world and to the things of this world. His eyes ought to be forever fixed on the goal beyond"Amen.

9).        What is the different between the church and our relationship with God?

The Church is all about projects and programs that would build up the building itself, but God desire us to have a relationship with Him as our Father, and we as His children. We want a quality ministry, yes, but not at the expense of a quality relationship with God.

10).      When we get to Heaven what will remain when all else is gone?

Passion will remain and our relationship with God. When we get to Heaven there will be no more religion, but what will remain is our relationship with our Shepherd.

11).      Explain what Psalm 23 means to you.

It means so much to me and my walk with the Lord. It unties the knot in my life! It brings comfort and joy to my soul. It tells me that I am His. It builds up my confident in Him as the leader of my life, the joy of my heart, and it lets me know that God is the very essence of my being. It means I can have a testimony of safety to share with others, surety in my Lord, security in His Word, and Him as sovereignty over my soul, and a satisfaction in my walk with Him, and not just a natural knowledge of Him, but a spiritual knowledge of Him as well. I am so grateful for this Psalm!

12).      What do the name Yahweh means?

When God revealed His name to Moses, He revealed Himself as YHWH or Yahweh which is best translated as "I AM WHO I AM" again, in all capital letters (EX 3:14-15). The Hebrew for "I AM" is "ehyeh" which could also be read to mean "I will be" but when God refers to Himself it must mean "I AM."
