BIBLE STUDY: DANIEL, EZEKIEL, and REVELATION ANSWERS

QUESTIONS:       WEEK # 7

1).        What is the difference between the Dragon and the Beast?

The Great Dragon, Satan (Revelation 12:3-4, 9), the first Beast, which comes from the sea (Daniel 8:23-24) is not the same as the second Beast which comes from the earth (Revelation 13:11-18). The Dragon is Satan himself, and the first Beast is the Antichrist, and the second Beast is the False Prophet, who gets their power from the Great Dragon.

2).        How long will the tribulation last?

The Tribulation period will last for seven years

3).        Throughout scripture, what is the tribulation is referred to by other names?

There are other names such as the Day of the Lord (Isaiah 2:12;13:6-9Joel 1:15;2:1-31;3:14;1 Thessalonians 5:2); trouble or tribulation (Deuteronomy 4:30Zephaniah 1:1); the great tribulation, which refers to the more intense second half of the seven-year period (Matthew 24:21); time or day of trouble (Daniel 12:1Zephaniah 1:15); time of Jacob's trouble (Jeremiah 30:7).

4).        What does the seventy (70) weeks mean in Daniel?

The prophecy (Daniel 9:24) contains a statement concerning God's six-fold purpose in bringing these events to pass. Verse 24 says this purpose is 1) "to finish transgression," 2) "to put an end to sin," 3) "to atone for wickedness," 4) "to bring in everlasting righteousness," 5) "to seal up vision and prophecy," and 6) "to anoint the most holy." In verse 24, Gabriel says, "Seventy 'sevens' are decreed for your people and your holy city." Almost all commentators agree that the seventy "sevens" should be understood as seventy "weeks" of years, in other words, a period of 490 years. These verses provide a sort of "clock" that gives an idea of when the Messiah would come and some of the events that would accompany His appearance. 49 years + 434 years = 483 years.

5).        Briefly, explain the tribulation period.

The Tribulation is a seven-year period described in (Revelation 11-18). Approximately the first three and a half years of that time, there will be the climax of worsening conditions, the anger of God against the wicked, and the signs of Christ's coming. During the last three and a half years, the "lawless one", the Antichrist will be empowered to sit at the center of the Tribulation's evil as he personifies Satan.

6).        Who is this person Jesus referred to as "Abomination that causes desolation"?

The Beast in Revelation 13 and Daniel 9:27  says that the beast will make a covenant for seven years, but in the middle of this week (3 1/2 years into the tribulation), he will break the covenant, putting a stop to sacrifice.

7).        What do the last half of the tribulation means?

The 3 1/2 years) also refers to "great tribulation," the last half of the seven-year tribulation period when the beast will be in power.

8).        How will people be saved during the tribulation period?

There will be two witnesses and the 144,000 sealed Israelites (Revelation 11:3, 7:4), and some think that "silent witness" because millions upon millions of copies of the Bible and Bible portions will not be removed and multitudes will no doubt be constrained to read the Bible in those days, and will turn to their Creator and Savior. These blood-bought believers will begin to warn others of even more severe judgment to come. They will preach repentance and judgment and they will be killed for their message.

9).        Who is the dragon?

. . .So the great dragon was case out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (Revelation 12:3-4, 9).

10).      Who is the woman in Revelation 12:1-2?

It is true that Mary gave birth to Jesus, it is also true that Jesus, the son of David from the tribe of Judah, came from Israel. In a sense, Israel gave birth—or brought forth—Christ Jesus. Verse 5 says that the woman's child was "a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne." Clearly, this is describing Jesus. Jesus ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9-11) and will one day establish His kingdom on earth (Revelation 20:4-6), and He will rule it with perfect judgment (the "rod of iron"; see Psalm 2:7-9).

11).      Explain the Holy Trinity and the unholy trinity.

The Holy Trinity is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; The Unholy Trinity is Satan, Antichrist, and the False Prophet.

12).      What are some characteristics of the Antichrist?

The Antichrist will be evil, yet appear as a savior. The Antichrist will be outspoken and have great speaking ability. The Antichrist will have a fierce countenance. The Antichrist will be very proud. The Antichrist will be a military genius. The Antichrist will not desire women. The Antichrist will have supernatural powers, given him by the Devil.

13).      Who will worship the Antichrist?

According to Revelation 13:8, "all who dwell on the earth will worship hm."  Daniel 7:25 tells us that the Antichrist is a cultic leader. "He shall speak pompous words against the Most High. . . and shall intend to change times and law." He will speak against the true God of heaven.  He will accept the worship of the peoples of the world.

14).      Who is the beast from the sea?

The first beast comes from "out of the sea" and is given authority and power by the dragon. This first beast is initially mentioned in Revelation 11:7 as coming out of the abyss. His appearance is described in detail in Revelation 13:1-10, and some of the mystery behind his appearance is revealed in Revelation 17:7-18. This is the Antichrist!

15).      When is the beast from the sea destroyed?

The beast and the false prophet gather the kings of the earth and their armies to prepare for war against "He who sits on a white horse". The battle results in the beast being seized, along with the false prophet, where they are thrown alive into "the lake of fire."

16).      This beast from the sea will not come from a physical ocean, explain.

The Antichrist will rise out of the mass of humanity; "And I saw a breast rising up out of the sea" (Revelation 13:1), "Sea" doesn't refer to the ocean but to humanity, specifically, the Gentile nations of the world (confirmed in Revelation 17:15; "people, multitudes, nations, and tongues")

17).      Who is the scarlet woman in (Revelation 17:18; Nahum 3:4)?

Revelation 17 begins by clearly identifying the woman in this chapter as a "harlot" (verse 1) "with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication" (verse 2). This seems to refer to political intrigues in which the leaders of these nations collaborate with this "harlot" in spiritual misconduct, with each party seeking its own advantage. Similarly, God called Israel's disobedience to Him adultery and harlotry (Jeremiah 3:8-9; Jeremiah 5:7; Jeremiah 13:27; Ezekiel 16:32).

18).      Describe the beast from the earth (Revelation 13:11).

The second beast is primarily described in Revelation chapter thirteen. This second beast comes out of the earth whose overall appearance is not described, other than having "two horns like a lamb", and speaking "like a dragon". His purpose is to promote the authority of the first beast (Antichrist) with the ability to perform great signs, even making fire come down out of heaven.

19).      What is the second beast called?

This second beast is called the false prophet
